History
The Water Street Mile was the brainchild of two former ITC presidents, Tim Dusick and Emily Blaskey, who believed that a shorter race distance would attract the interest of the Eau Claire community. The course record was set by Tim Nelson in 2011, a 21-year-old Augusta product, who tied the overall event mark set by Larry Mbogo. "I'm a long distance runner, I haven't run a mile in over a year," Nelson said afterward. "I finished well at nationals, took a couple weeks off and have been running for a month. I thought if I broke 4:30 I'd be happy." Nelson cracked the tape at 4 minutes, 16.7 seconds. Nelson's super effort relegated former Blugold Brent Kann to a second place finish for the third consecutive year.
The women's course record is held by Alyssa Sybilrud, the Blugold all-American, who broke the tape at 5:11 in the 2010 race
